Ice Climbing
This is for the more adventurous and when the conditions are just right, there are several options available in the form of frozen waterfalls:
Twin Falls
This is a good start for the beginner and consists of two waterfalls approximately 10-12 metres high, with the upper falls about 30 metres back from the first.
Eaton Falls
This is slightly harder to do and is not as convenient to access. Avoid standing directly under the cliffs, as the rock is very unstable and has been known to unexpectedly break loose.
Evergreen Gully
This is the most impressive. It is 12 km north of town and is on the west side of Highway 40, below Mt Hamell. It starts at a small creek and gets more difficult, the higher you go.
Knuckle Gnasher
This is definitely more difficult and provides a climb between 200 - 300 metres, depending on ice conditions. It is 12 km north of town and access is from the gun range on the east side of the Smoky River.
